“The Chimp can be a force for good or a force for evil. It can be a source of inspiration, creativity and vitality or a source of fear, anxiety and depression. The Chimp can be your best friend or your worst enemy.” Dr. Steve Peters
“The Chimp Paradox” is one of my favourite personal development books. I have listened to it on Audible many times, and each time I take away a new learning and new perspectives.
This quote from “The Chimp Paradox” by Dr. Steve Peters, a consultant psychiatrist and performance coach, illustrates his main message that our thoughts and emotions, represented by the “chimp” brain, can have a significant impact on our lives and that it’s important to understand and manage the impulses of the chimp brain in order to achieve greater success and happiness.
It was one of the first books I read when I started my journey into the human experience and helped me crystalise my understanding of the unconscious mind.
