Discovering your personal values can be a rewarding and enlightening experience.

Personal values are the guiding principles that shape your thoughts, actions, and decisions. They reflect what is most important to you and help you define your purpose and priorities in life.

Identifying your personal values can provide a number of benefits, including:

Clarity and direction: Understanding your values can help you make clearer and more informed decisions, as you can use your values as a guide to determine what is most important to you in life, relationships and career.
Increased self-awareness: Reflecting on your values can help you gain a deeper understanding of who you are and what motivates you. This can lead to greater self-awareness and self-acceptance.
Improved relationships: Knowing your values can help you communicate your needs and boundaries more effectively, leading to better relationships with others.
Greater authenticity: Living in accordance with your values can help you feel more authentic and true to yourself, leading to a greater sense of fulfillment and satisfaction.

STEP ONE

Review the following table of personal values and choose 15 values that you feel are important to you.

Take your time and consider each value carefully:

Reflect on your experiences and the things that are important to you. Think about what you value in your relationships, your work, and your personal life. Consider what you believe in and what you stand for. This can help you narrow down your list of values to the 15 that are most important to you.

STEP TWO

Now think about which values are most important to you and which ones you would be willing to compromise on. This can help you determine your core values, which are the values that are non-negotiable for you and that guide your actions and decisions.

From your list of 15 values, choose the 5 that are most important to you. Rate each one out of 5.

STEP THREE

Now you know which are your top 5 core values and which are most important to you.

Reflect on how your core values align with your actions and decisions. Think about whether your core values are reflected in the way you live your life.

Are you acting in accordance with your values? If not, consider how you can align your actions with your values.

Now you have identified your core values, make a conscious effort to live in accordance with them. This means making decisions and taking actions that align with your values, even if it means making difficult choices or standing up for what you believe in. You will know when it is wrong for you or right for you – you will feel it in your gut.
